Dear Parents,
Thank you for all your poll responses. As the poll suggests, Thursday evenings seem to be the best for most, so we have set October 15, 2009 at 6:30pm for our next meeting. We will be meeting at the Georgia Power Conference Room in Tallapoosa off Hwy 78.
We have a set an agenda of topics for the meeting:
- Why Advocate?
- Why Affiliate?
- How does Georgia measure up?
- What is our County doing?
- What can we do?
- Sign up for committees
- Business and Community
- Public Relations
- School Board & PTA
- Fund Raising
- Grants and Scholarships
- Legislation
- Field Trips & Socialization
- Membership
- By-Laws
- Nomination
We also will start collecting membership dues. Per Susan Secord's suggestion, it will be $20. You do not have to pay a fee to participate, but to have a vote on this chapter's activities and to hold an office, you must be a paid member. These dues provide you a membership with the GAGC at the local and state level, help us pay for our charter and give us our initial start-up funds, as well as chartering our group. Cut off date for this year's dues will be in January. Laura Henckel will serve as acting treasurer.
As always, all are welcome to attend, so if you know anyone who was unable the last time, please let them now about this meeting. The more the merrier.
A couple of corrections from our last email:
Rome/Floyd County has a strong mentorship program. Mentorship is available as an option from the state, but Haralson County currently does not offer it. Also, every student is tested that is referred from the Review Teams, but it may take longer due to funding issues.
Thanks for your support!
