Great news from HCMS! Mr. Ridley has approved HCGA's sponsorship of Mr. Young to attend the National Association for Gifted Children annual convention! (http://www.nagc.org/2010convention.aspx) This is such a great opportunity for Haralson County School's Gifted Program, and I am extremely pleased that some of our teachers will be able to attend! In addition, Mr. Ridley has expressed interest in our local affiliation, and in such supports our efforts! This is one of our goals for this current year- to reach the middle and high school levels- and, in addition, provides parent involvement at all the schools in Haralson County.

Other goals for this year are to continue to fill committees to further the mission of HCGA. If you have a specific area of talent or interest that will benefit the Gifted Program, we would love to hear from you. We would like to continue efforts to apply for grants, and to seek out potential scholarships for gifted students (rather for a summer camp, or for college!), promote an awareness within the community at large of the unique needs and challenges of gifted students, plan opportunities that will enable gifted students to socialize with their peers, plan and implement fundraiser events....etc.

This years officers are: Rhonda Prather (chair); Susan Nason (vice-chair); Beth Newman (secretary); Laura Henckle (treasurer). Contributing to the bake sale at this point are: Angela Thompson, Susan Secord, Christie Fisher, Susan Nason, Laura Henckle, and Rhonda Prather. Thank you all for your continued support of HCGA.

We are in the process of completing our charter for this school year. If you are planning to become a member, please contact one of the officers above for an application, or you may access the application at (http://www.oomphind.com/GAGC/membership_app_gagc.pdf). We need to have all applications and dues before the 1st of October. You may mail your application to:

Haralson County Gifted Association
PO Box 865
Tallapoosa, GA 30176

  • Please make checks payable to Rhonda Prather. Receipts will be mailed to the address provided on your application. Your dues include you membership in HCGA and Georgia Association for Gifted Children (GAGC) and is at a discount rate of $20.
